Tex-Mex Ten
The Blue Cactus restaurant and Iguana club will celebrate the restaurant's 10th anniversary for a whole month. Over the coming four weeks, the club and restaurant guests will be in for lots of attractions, including a special barbecue menu, a photo exhibition and concerts.
The anniversary month will be inaugurated May 24 by the creator of the best party music mixes, from jazz and funk to techno-Jimi Tenor. He will play at Iguana with his nine-person band. The group consists of the best brass musicians, backed by swinging vibes. Hailing from Finland, Tenor experimented with music from the beginning of his musical career (1989). He first played with the Shamans group in which he used empty oil barrels and vacuum cleaners as instruments. When he moved to New York City, Tenor got fascinated with jazz and then recordings with a symphony orchestra. In his work, Tenor plays over 20 instruments. His experiments include the transformation of a gramophone into a primitive Hammond organ.
Tenor's fascination with the symphony orchestra sound resulted in the album Out of Nowhere (2000) he recorded with the Łódź Symphony Orchestra.
The concert by Tenor will take place at the adjacent Iguana Lounge club, added to Blue Cactus in 2001. "That was really a necessity," said Hanna Kożuchowska, PR manager at the restaurant and club. "Having started their night out with a wonderful dinner, our guests needed a place to relax with a cocktail, listen and chill out to good music and even dance. We therefore offered the dinner&drink formula."
As part of the anniversary, Blue Cactus patrons are in for the California Dreaming Festival of Californian wines. Wine distributors from sunny California will come to Blue Cactus with their products June 13. The restaurant will also present a photo exhibition.
A special Soccer Menu will be introduced in mid-June and soccer fans will be able to follow matches of the 2006 World Cup on large TV screens.
The anniversary will close June 23 with a wild party and a performance by Rozalia de Sousa. "From its very beginning, Blue Cactus has been all about excellent food and top quality of service," said Kożuchowska. "After 10 years, we can say we have succeeded in creating a place that you like to return to, where you want to be and one that everybody's talking about. The best evidence are over 1 million guests who have visited the venues at 11 Zajączkowska St. over the past decade."
