Komorowski Signs National Remembrance Institute Act
Acting president Bronislaw Komorowski yesterday signed an amendment to the National Remembrance Institute (IPN) act aimed at neutralizing the controversial institution.
The decision was made despite objections from the opposition party PiS and associates of the late president Lech Kaczynski, who had intended to direct the bill to the Constitutional Tribunal.
The new bill introduces a new way of electing IPN’s governing board, which will guarantee the independence of the institution, which recently was criticized for becoming politicized.
