Poland may enjoy PLN 27.9 bln accumulated GDP nominal growth by 2020 thanks to the organization of European Football Championships in 2012, the daily Gazeta Wyborcza writes citing analytical report for the event's organization coordinator PL.2012.
The number of foreign tourists may grow by 490k a year with revenues from foreign tourist visits increasing by 5 billion zlotys in 2012-2020 thanks to the organization of the event and benefitting from the accompanying investment in tourism infrastructure, the daily Rzeczpospolita adds.
Economists remain skeptical about those estimates however, since a part of infrastructure projects would be carried out regardless of the tournament, while some investments - like stadiums - are being made without proper profitability analysis, chief economist at BRE Bank Ryszard Petru said.
Poland shouldn't expect significant effects for the economy, yet it will surely be beneficial in terms of image, BZ WBK economist Piotr Bujak added.
