Janusz Palikot
Janusz Palikot, a controversial politician was the only ruling PO party member yesterday ready to join the parliamentary team created on Tuesday by the opposition party PiS for investigating the presidential plane crash in Smolensk on April 10.
PiS invited other party MPs and senators to participate in the team but the ruling PO, coalition partner PSL and left-wing opposition SLD declined the offer.
Head of the team, Antoni Macierewicz, at the Tuesday press conference placed the blame for the accident on the Polish government, which had been responsible for preparing the journey.
The most controversial moment of the press conference, however, was when Macierewicz called the tragedy a "crime." When asked to explain what he meant, the MP said that certain elements of the tragic event deserved this label, but the wholistic assessment of it would be possible after the team completes its work.
