Poland to Boost Social Insurance Fund with Means from Demographic Reserve
Poland's government approved the allocation of 7.5 billion zlotys from the demographic reserve fund to the social insurance fund (FUS) to assure payments of current pension benefits, government press office said in a press statement.
In mid-August the demographic reserve fund held over 12.7 billion zlotys on its accounts. This year the fund should receive 9.5 billion zlotys from privatization, which means that it should hold 13.3 billion zlotys at the end of 2011, the statement explained.
Last week top official at social insurance board ZUS said the 7.5 billion zlotys transfer was planned for September. FUS should close 2010 with 4.0 billion zlotys debt but the figure could be lower if wages follow current trends, the official also said.
