Poland and India to Boost Economic, Cultural and Security Cooperation

Following his Tuesday meetings with India’s leaders in New Delhi, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the country’s top politicians recognize that Poland is a stable and reliable partner.

Polish PM held talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh on ways of strengthening the bilateral relationship further.

Both countries agreed to endeavor to enhance trade and investments in both directions with the target of doubling the value of bilateral trade by 2014.

The two leaders inked a Cultural Exchange Program for the years 2010-13 which is expected to give a further boost to exchanges in this field.
They also discussed global issues like reform of the United Nations Security Council and climate change. They agreed to expand cooperation in the field of clean coal technology.

Tusk reaffirmed the support of Poland for India’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2011-12 as well as for a permanent seat in an expanded Security Council.

Polish PM was also received by the President of India Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Minister of External Affairs Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, and the President of the Indian National Congress Party Sonia Gandhi, as well as the leader of the opposition Indian People's Party Sushma Swaraj.

Earlier, Tusk visited the Mahatma Gandhi mausoleum, where he laid a wreath to honor the political and spiritual leader of India’s independence movement.
