From the Publisher
Here is the first issue of The Polish Science Voice. After years of effort, the Warsaw Voice SA publishing house is finally launching a new monthly magazine devoted to Polish science and technology. There are many great scientists and researchers in Poland who deserve to be widely known, whose achievements are crying out for recognition among an audience broader than just the scientific community.
There are many research programs, institutes and teams that are working to improve the standards of Polish science, technology and business, and they are becoming an increasingly important part of European and global scientific networks.
Thanks to our flagship newsweekly The Warsaw Voice, published since the fall of 1988, Warsaw Voice SA has been in constant contact with international decision makers and opinion shapers. Our publications, both printed and electronic, provide comprehensive information on Poland's political, social, economic and cultural life. Remaining faithful to the foundations of journalism-including independence, objectivity and reliable information-our publications have earned popularity and prestige in all the communities we reach. The Polish Science Voice will consistently follow the same principles and maintain the highest standards.
The international scientific community is familiar with the standards and achievements of Polish science. That is why the new monthly is primarily addressed to economists, politicians, academics, diplomats and journalists. In other words, we want to provide decision makers and opinion formers with first-hand and up-to-date information on the strengths of Polish science, its prospects and attractiveness to foreign partners.
This is the right moment to devote a special publication to such issues because Polish science today is looking forward to a time of plenty after years of famine.
In the interview that he granted us for this issue of The Polish Science Voice, the minister of science and higher education, Prof. Michał Seweryński, outlines his vision for this new era.
Quoting hard facts, Seweryński shows that, thanks to European Union membership and the country's own efforts, Polish science will finally receive the kind of funding that will guarantee its accelerated development.
Every month The Polish Science Voice will turn its searchlight on Polish science and report on its organization and funding system. We will also be examining the ties between science and the economy and the links between Polish researchers and the international research community. We will be talking with scientists and visiting their laboratories. Finally, we will follow our researchers as they participate in various international projects and develop innovative technologies.
