Celebrating Music

The 17th Mozart Festival is taking place in Warsaw in June and July. It is a major event for all those who admire the talent of the great Viennese composer, especially as the Warsaw Chamber Opera is the only opera theater in the world that has all of Mozart's stage works in its permanent repertoire. This means not just works regularly featured at opera houses, such as Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, Le nozze di Figaro, The Abduction from the Seraglio and Cosi fan tutte, but also such rarities as Mitridate, Re di Ponto, Zaide, Lucio Silla, and even charming one-act pieces that are more likely to be found on records than produced by serious theaters, to mention Lo Sposo Deluso, L'Oca del Cairo or the intelligently humorous, very perceptive and technically difficult piece for a bass voice-Der Schauspieldirektor. In total, these are 28 works forming 22 productions, which altogether mean 42 evenings with Mozart's stage music.

Apart from the stage pieces, the Warsaw Chamber Opera has also prepared-as it does each year for the Mozart Festival-four series of concerts featuring the great composer's music. The concerts will be held at Warsaw's Seminary Church, the Royal Castle and Łazienki Park through the end of July.
