Comic Books and Cinema
A series of international cultural events is planned in £ód¼ this October.
One of the highlights is the 18th £ód¼ International Festival of Comics that will be held Oct. 5-7, featuring world-famous comic book artists such as Grzegorz Rosiński, a Polish-born writer and illustrator who lives in Switzerland. Other stars will include Swedish "underground" comic strip writer Max Andersson and France's Jean-Louis Fourier.
Another event worthy of note is the £ód¼ Design international festival that will be held by the £ód¼ Art Center from Oct. 18. The event will feature a series of presentations and discussions about design. The festival will focus on product design, applied graphic arts and relations between the designer, producer and client.
Cinema buffs are looking forward to a review of animated films by Japanese studio Ghibli Oct. 2-11. The event will be accompanied by an exhibition of film posters.
Yet another attention grabber in £ód¼ this October is an exhibition of photographs by Eva Rubinstein, the daughter of famous pianist Arthur Rubinstein, a native of £ód¼. The display includes some 50 black-and-white photos taken between 1968 and 1990. It runs through Oct. 11.
£ód¼ will also host the third Meeting of Partner City Theaters, a theatrical festival that will begin at the Nowy Theater Oct. 20. It will feature theater groups from Germany, Lithuania, Sweden, Hungary and Croatia.
