The International Foundation of Social Economics and Political Studies, created by Mikhail Gorbachev nearly a year ago, has been deprived of its central Moscow home.
On the grounds of a decision by Russian President Boris Yeltsin, both the Moscow building and another property of the foundation located in Novoye Nagorye near Moscow, were summarily passed over to the Finance Academy, a Russian government affiliate. No reasons for the president's decision were given. Gorbachev, who was not allowed to enter the building with his colleagues, said at an improvised press conference that it was political revenge for the criticism he has lately been expressing toward the Russian government and president.
