The Lower Silesia region of Poland has developed excellent tourist facilities to take advantage of its wealth of beautiful countryside. It is a region attractive to tourists, particularly those wanting to escape the hubbub of city life and who are in search of tranquillity and nature.

You can wander through Lower Silesia throughout the year, tailoring your activities to the weather conditions.

Lower Silesia is especially attractive in winter on account of its numerous mountain ranges such as the picturesque, enchanting Karkonosze, with its highest and most beautiful peak Śnieżka. The Karkonosze could be described as the epitome of winter in Lower Silesia.

Winter here is good news for snow lovers. The Sudety mountain range has ideal conditions for all snow activities. Snow falls early and does not melt until late spring. Beautiful, wide and easy slopes and excellent infrastructure such as marked trails, mountain retreats, guesthouses and "agro-tourism" centers please even the most discerning of skiers and guarantee comfortable and active vacations for tourists.

Cross-country skiing is possible on marked trails in the Śnieżka Massif and in the Bialskie, Bystrzyckie and Sowie Mountains. Skiers have at their disposal some 50 kilometers of professionally prepared cross-country trails in the most attractive part of the Izerskie Mountains. In March each year this region hosts the Piast Race, the biggest cross-country skiing event in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. A long and snowy winter in a climate more reminiscent of Scandinavia and high-altitude valleys, meadows and pastures also attract dog sledding enthusiasts.

The Karkonosze mountains also have excellent downhill skiing facilities. Many kilometers of well-prepared trails and numerous lifts await skiers. These facilities and the many guesthouses, hotels and restaurants combine to offer visitors high-class resorts in Lower Silesia. Every skier and snowboarder should find something here to their liking.

This year the winter season is starting with a campaign to promote active tourism in the region, particularly in the beautiful Karkonosze. Campaign financing is partly coming from European Union funds, and the campaign is being promoted by Gabi Gold, a Czech singer known in Poland.

Lower Silesia offers adventure, recreation and an unforgettable way to spend your winter vacations.

Dear Reader,
Lower Silesia is an exceptional region of Poland with an interesting past, unique nature and a diverse range of vacation opportunities appreciated by tourists across Europe. We have now launched a new promotional campaign for Lower Silesia's brand-name tourist products under the headline To je vyborne! Das ist super! Dolny Śląsk. We hope the campaign will help us spread the word about the region's attractions.

Of the eight themes on which we want to focus in our campaign, active tourism plays a significant part. In the winter season, this mostly means skiing. Well-groomed slopes, snug mountain hostels, and beautifully located ski lifts await skiing enthusiasts, while those who prefer hiking will be able to choose from a wide range of trails of varying difficulty.

I would like to encourage you to come and visit Lower Silesia and make the most of this winter season.

Andrzej Łoś
Marshal of Lower Silesian Voivodeship

Those who enjoy active leisure can find interesting opportunities in Lower Silesia, most of them associated with the region's winter tourist attractions and particularly winter sports. Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts have their favorite places here. The resorts owe their popularity to attractive slopes, a long skiing season and constantly upgraded infrastructure. Downhill and cross-country skiing and other winter sports attract thousands of tourists every year to the Sudety Mountains.
