20 Years of Caricature
December 19, 2007 By Dariusz Pietrzak
Article's tools:

More than 300 works by 116 artists will be on show at Warsaw's Museum of Caricature on Kozia St. in the Old Town from Jan. 11-20.

The exhibition traces the 20-year history of the Association of Polish Cartoonists (SPAK), which was established in 1987. SPAK was set up by Eryk Lipiński, whose talents included drawing, graphics and caricature. He also established the Museum of Caricature in Warsaw.

Entitled 20 Years in SPAK, the event brings together work by artists who are members of SPAK as well as those who work independently.

The exhibition shows the past, present and future of Polish caricature. The "Where We Come From" section of the exhibition depicts works by cartoonists who are no longer alive.

"Where We Are" is the biggest part of the exhibition, showing work by mature caricaturists with established careers. "Where We Are Heading" is a presentation of works by novices.

Many of the works won awards at the most prestigious competitions of satirical drawing in Poland and around the world.
