Nutcracker at the National Opera

Tchaikovsky's famous Nutcracker ballet will be performed at Warsaw's Wielki Theater from late December to January.

The story is set on Christmas Eve, depicting preparations for a Christmas Eve party. All the presents under the Christmas tree are handed out but one, the toy nutcracker. The only person to be charmed by it is Clara. She puts her doll away and hugs the unwanted nutcracker. In her dream the nutcracker transforms into a prince.

Poland's best dancers will take part in the performances. The orchestra will be conducted by Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski.

Wielki Theater-Polish National Opera, 1 Teatralny Sq., Dec. 23 at noon and 6 p.m., Dec. 27, Jan. 1, Jan. 5, and Jan. 10 at 6 p.m.
