The Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) continued its plunge over the week of Jan. 7-11. Its main index, the WIG, dropped by more than 7 percent, losing over 10 percent since the start of the year. At the end of the week, it was just 400 points above the 50,000-point mark.

Analysts say the bad start to the year is due to economic uncertainty in the United States and the decreasing popularity of Polish investment funds, which reported meager profits for 2007, sending clients rushing to invest their money in bank deposits and bonds instead.
