Roisin Murphy

Article's tools:

Irish singer Roisin Murphy is performing at Warsaw's Stodoła club Jan. 26.

Murphy and Mark Brydon became pop icons during the 1990s when they stormed the charts as Anglo-Irish duo Moloko. Their unique blend of house, trip hop and funk, embodied in hits like "Sing It Back" and "The Time Is Now," had people bopping all over the globe. Murphy's distinctive voice and on-stage charisma helped mold a new, spectacular and futuristic dance pop idiom. Murphy also took on Madonna and Björk as a fashion trendsetter. It's hardly surprising then that Moloko's first album was titled Do You Like My Tight Sweater?

Murphy left Brydon to embark on a solo career after Moloko's fourth and final album, Statues. She has also worked with Handsome Boy Modeling School and DJ Boris Dlugosch for whom she sang the club hit "Never Enough." Echo Records released her first solo album Ruby Blue in 2005.
