Warsaw's Stodoła student club is hosting the 28th Bill Haley Rock'n'Roll Dance Competition Feb. 4.

The event's beginnings date back to 1981 when the father of rock'n'roll died in the United States on Feb. 9 at the age of 55. Haley's greatest hit "Rock Around the Clock" sold 22 million copies and kicked off a global rock'n'roll craze. To honor the musician after his death, Stodoła launched what it said was the world's first dance competition named after Haley.

Since then, hundreds of Polish and foreign dancers have taken part in the competition every year, showing off their skills before a panel of judges who have included many Polish show business celebrities. This year, satirist Tomasz Jachimek, actor Łukasz Zagrobelny, and singer Paweł Stasiak will be among the judges.

Before the competition, two special discos will be held at Stodoła Feb. 1 and 2. Doors open 9 p.m.

28th Bill Haley Rock'n'Roll Dance Competition, Feb. 4, Stodoła Club, 10 Batorego St., Warsaw, 7 p.m., Tickets zl.30, students zl.25; on the day of the event, all tickets zl.35, www.stodola.pl
