Ewa Bem is considered by many as the first lady of Polish jazz. The vocalist will promote her latest album, Kakadu, at the Piwnica pod Harend± club in Warsaw on Feb. 3.

Kakadu includes smooth jazz compositions by Joachim Mencel, a composer and arranger. The whole album is in the mood of the 1970s.

Bem, who makes her lyric-writing debut with the album, said that "it is an album of natural sounds and includes musicians who had been chosen for their artistry. There are 13 songs, whose common factor is a battle with commercialism and mediocrity, if you will excuse the big words."

Piwnica pod Harend±, 46 Krakowskie Przedmie¶cie St., 8 p.m., tickets zl.50, tel. 0-22 751-41-12, e-mail: jazzcafe@jazzcafe.com.pl ; on the day at the club
