Gerbera: Star of Spring

Springtime first and foremost means flowers-beautiful, colorful and charming blooms to embellish the home and the office. Florists are plumping for the underrated gerbera for the 2008 spring season.

The flower's simple structure and kaleidoscope of shades and hues makes for an endless variety of floral arrangements. Other flowers popular this season include the narcissus, goldenrod, buttercup, zantedeschia and hyacinth.

Calmness and simplicity rule this year's floral arrangements with contrasting themes, colors and materials giving way to peace and moderation. Touches of red, orange, purple and bright pink have been added to mild gray this spring. Colors should be limited to one or two wherever possible, restraint should be exercised in creating motifs and natural materials of simple texture should be used for adornments. Try coarse wood with transparent and colored glass, natural stone with felt or simple vessels with refined ceramics. The accompanying photos illustrate a few modern interior suggestions prepared by florists from the Holland Flower Office.
