World-renowned jazz and gospel singer Dee Dee Bridgewater will perform March 4 in the Kongresowa Hall in Warsaw. She will promote the Red Earth album that she recorded with musicians from Mali.

Bridgewater has received many awards and nominations for Grammy and Jazz Academy Awards. Music critics and audiences praise her original way of combining a sophisticated jazz style with pop music and stage skills.

Her talent was spotted during the legendary Newport festival in New York in 1973 when she took part in a performance of the controversial "Freedom Now's Suite" by drummer and jazz innovator Max Roach.

In Europe, she won recognition at the French-language Festival de Chateauvallon in 1974. Over the following years, she developed her vocal skills. She recorded albums, performed in the famous Paris New Morning club, leading her own quartet, and also played Billie Holiday in the play Lady Day. She also contributed to writing the opera Cosmopolitan Greetings by George Gruntz and Allen Ginsberg.
