The 12th Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival is being held in Warsaw March 9-22. Elżbieta Penderecka is initiator and general director and this year's theme is "Beethoven and His Vienna."

The Scandinavian Lahti Symphony Orchestra, one of the world's best chamber orchestras, will be making their Polish debut and German mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig will be celebrating her 80th birthday. Other renowned performers include the Shanghai Quartet and Viennese pianist Rudolf Buchbinder.

The program includes Arnold Schoenberg's Gurrelieder, which was given its Polish premiere 30 years ago. This will be its first performance in many years.

Performances will also be held in Cracow, Łódź, Gdańsk and Białystok.
