Henryk Broda, Commune Administrator:

Poland's Będzino commune in northwestern Poland supports innovative projects. Its local development plan allows wind farms to be constructed here. Thanks to this, one of the largest wind power facilities in Central Europe was built in Będzino in 2006. The fields of Tymień in Będzino commune are the site of 23 wind turbines, each 100 meters high and with power capacity of 2 MW.

The Będzino wind farm is currently looking to expand and requires more land. Wind power is clean and green and also an important source of income for the commune.

In 2007 the Będzino commune won the title of Environmentally Friendly Commune 2004-2006, awarded by the Western Pomerania province marshal and the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Szczecin. The commune plans to build sewage systems in all the towns and villages within its boundaries, has a recycling program and promotes ecological actions. The commune received an award of distinction in a European Commune-European City poll by Gazeta Prawna newspaper.
