Procter & Gamble has begun constructing a new Olay cosmetics factory in Aleksandrów Łódzki, central Poland. The $50-million project started in February and the facility will become the largest P&G skincare product factory in Europe.

"This is our third project in Poland, after the Pampers factory in Warsaw and the Gillette blades and safety razors factory in ŁódĽ," said Alex Blanco, P&G vice-president for global production and distribution of beauty care products. "We picked Aleksandrów Łódzki because of its central location and good access to qualified staff. The facility will give jobs to 300 people, including specialists in chemistry, biotechnology and mechatronics."

Cosmetics produced in Aleksandrów Łódzki will be exported to markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The production volume of over 100 kinds of facial creams, body lotions and gels will reach dozens of tons every day.

The first stage of construction is scheduled for completion in August. The first production line is due for launch in December and the factory will open its first packaging line in January 2009. The first cosmetics produced at the new factory are expected to appear on the market in the first half of next year.
