Contest for Best Ads

50.4 percent of Polish businesses surveyed by the central bank are in favor of the country adopting the single European currency. Only 6.9 percent said they are against the move.

The 17th Idea Awards ceremony will take place at Warsaw's Hyatt Hotel April 21 to conclude an annual advertising competition held by ABK Grupa ad agency. The competition is made up of two stages. In the first stage, internet users give nominations to what they consider to be the most interesting commercials and advertisements. In the second stage, a jury made up of marketing directors from television stations, newspapers and magazines and outdoor advertising companies choose the best commercials and ads of the year.

The awards are given out in four categories: Fashion and Beauty (body and hair care products, clothes and shoes, hairdressing and beauty parlors, fitness and spa centers); Automotive Industry (cars, motorcycles, and automotive companies); Medicine (pharmaceuticals, medical services, and medical devices); and Services (banks, telecommunications, insurance companies, travel agencies, hotels and restaurants). Each category is further subdivided into TV commercials, outdoor and press ads. The best commercials and advertisements win the grand prize and receive the Gold Idea statuette.

The competition is the idea of ABK Grupa's Roman Fedorczuk, a member of the American Advertising Association. The competition started in 1991 as Clio Poland, but was then renamed Dea Awards; in 1996 it became known as Idea Awards. Since the beginning, the competition has sought to elevate the standards of advertising in Poland by singling out the best ads and commercials.

The competition is held online, enabling every internet user to pick their favorite ad. Since the competition's first year, the work of the jury has been supervised by an auditing company. SMG/KRC Poland polling and market research company has surveyed consumer preferences and checked audience ratings.
