April 2, 2008 By P.M.
Article's tools:

Warsaw's Wielki Theater is preparing to stage the monumental opera Mefistofele by Arrigo Boito April 3, followed by a puppet theater show from Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, three days later. Both shows come as part of the Faust Myth in Music and Theater festival this April.

Boito's Mefistofele will be performed by the soloists, choir and orchestra of Bydgoszcz's Opera Nova. This monumental opera is the greatest achievement of the Italian playwright and librettist. It premiered in 1882. Interestingly, Boito was working on it while visiting his mother's relatives in Poland. Mefistofele is a grand-scale opera that requires 230 artists.
