Poland's Robert Kubica, from the BMW Sauber team, clocked up his greatest achievement to date by coming in second in the Malaysian Formula 1 Grand Prix March 23. First place went to reigning world champion Kimi Raikonnen from the Ferrari team. Fellow Finn Heikki Kovalainen in the McLaren colors came in third.

The Malaysian Grand Prix was the second time Kubica has stepped up to the Formula 1 podium. His previous best was a third place at Milan's Monza circuit in 2006 where he was a replacement driver.

"This has been a fantastic day for the team... and for me," Kubica said after the award ceremony.

Mario Theissen, head of BMW Sauber, said after the qualifiers that he thought Kubica might win. Theissen said that Kubica was superb under pressure and never missed an opportunity to exploit his rivals' mistakes. "Kubica didn't make a single mistake, he was always in control and very fast," he said after the race.

BMW Sauber has come in second two times this season after Nick Heidfeld's second place in the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne earlier this year.
