Risk management is a top priority for any organization be it private or public. Magique and Galileo are IT systems that help record, quantify, assess and control risks. Grupa Strategia, one of Poland's leading business consultancies and audit firms, gave a presentation of the two systems at an exclusive conference at Warsaw's Sheraton Hotel on March 12.

Nearly all of Poland's major financial institutions, public bodies and firms were represented. Attendees included the National Bank of Poland, Bank Zachodni WBK, Bank BGŻ, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, Invest Bank, PKO Bank Polski, BRE Bank, ING Bank Śląski, Volkswagen Bank Polska, PKP State Railways, Graal, Grupa Lotos, the Agricultural Property Agency, the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture, Axel Springer Polska, BOT Górnictwo i Energetyka, Kompania Piwowarska, Polska Grupa Energetyczna, PGNiG, Poczta Polska (Polish Post Office), the Treasury, the Finance Ministry, Nivea Polska, Dialog, Polkomtel, Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa, Południowy Koncern Węglowy, Ruch, TU Allianz Polska, Vattenfall Heat Poland, Zakłady Azotowe Puławy and many others.

Adam Ciuhak, Grupa Strategia's CEO, gave the opening speech. Mr Ciuhak has many years experience in managing and restructuring Polish and foreign capital groups. Professor Bolesław Kuc followed, stressing the importance of risk management for every modern organization. Verna Hughes, a partner in the Risk & Assurance Division of British firm Horwath Clark Whitehill, presented the Magique and Galileo systems.

Ms Hughes, who helped design the software, said that one of its key features was its ability to react to changes in priorities resulting from both internal and external factors. Konrad Knedler, internal audit director with the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, described the Galileo system from a user's perspective.

Grupa Strategia holds exclusive rights from Horwath Clark Whitehill to distribute and implement the Magique and Galileo systems in Poland, the Baltic States and China.

More than 200 firms worldwide have implemented the Magique and Galileo risk-management systems. These include Shell, BAA, Reuters, PKN Orlen, BRE Bank, Komercni Banka, the British Ministry of Defense and Manchester City Council.
