Biggest Sales Growth on the Polish Market

The latest report from the London-based monthly The Spirit Business, published in March 2008, says that Poland is the biggest and fastest growing market for Finlandia vodka, a brand owned by the Brown-Forman Corporation.

The report says that the highest Finlandia sales were recorded in Central and Eastern Europe. The most spectacular sales growth was in Poland where sales exceeded 7.2 million liters in 2007. That was over 25 percent more than in the previous year.

Sales were boosted primarily by the launch of flavors such as Finlandia Grapefruit Fusion. Since the moment it was put on the market, this vodka has won a Double Gold Medal at the International Alcoholic Beverage Competition 2007 in San Francisco; the highest recommendation-five stars-from Paul Pacult's Spirit Journal; and 96 out of 100 points in the most recommended list in Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

"Our tremendous growth in Poland is fuelled by the Polish consumer's appreciation for the quality of the naturally pure ingredients found in Finlandia Vodka," said Maureen Brekka (pictured), the managing director for Finlandia Vodka. "We are experiencing growth all over Central and Eastern Europe to include Russia."

Russia is another dynamically developing market for this brand. In that country, Finlandia Vodka outpaced the biggest importer of vodka, selling in February more than 169,000 nine-liter cases. As a result, Finlandia has become number one in Russia's imported premium vodka sector (source: Russian government statistics).

"Being the top-selling imported vodka in Russia is an incredible accomplishment for the brand," she said. "I think this speaks volumes for the Finlandia brand as Russians are well known for their distinguishing vodka palate."

Finlandia Vodka is the sixth best selling premium vodka worldwide. It is quickly catching up with Skyy and Stolichnaya and its sales will soon exceed 3 million boxes.

"We are proud of such a substantial growth by Finlandia in the vodka category since the acquisition by the Brown-Forman corporation," said Mark Bacon, brand director for North and South America.
