Earth Day in Warsaw
April 23, 2008
Article's tools:

Earth Day will see its final Polish celebrations on Warsaw's Pole Mokotowskie April 27. As has been the case in previous years, Varsovians will be able to step outside and spend some time in a "mini global village." They will be able to stroll around, sample world cuisine, enjoy live concerts and take part in workshops.

An added attraction this year will be a free tram to the celebrations via Zieleniecka Avenue and Banacha Street between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The organizers are hoping that this will encourage people to leave their cars at home. The tram will be bearing banners proclaiming "Protect the climate, hop on a tram" and "Protect the climate, hop out of your car."

The United Nations declared April 22 Earth Day in 1970 in response to the degradation of the natural environment. Earth Day has been celebrated around the world ever since. It was first marked in Poland in 1990.
