After the J&S Cup was left off the World Tennis Association (WTA) calendar, there were concerns that Warsaw would not be able to host to the most important world tennis tournaments. Luckily the Suzuki Masters has taken its place. At the end of April and early May the WTA Tour Women's tournament will be played out on courts in Warsaw. The players will include Lindsay Davenport, Elena Dementeva, Maria Kirilenko, Svetlana Kuznetsova and two top Polish players, Agnieszka Radwańska and Marta Domachowska.

The Suzuki Warsaw Masters will start April 30. Group matches will be played on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m. and semi-finals on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. At noon on Saturday there will be a play-off for third place and the finals will be at 2:45 p.m.

The Warsaw tournament, offering $105,000 in prize money, is seen as part of the preliminaries for the Roland Garros grand slam in May. A match between Davenport and Kirilenko will launch this year's tournament. Domachowska and Radwańska will be second to play on the main Warszawianka court.

April 30-May 4, Warszawianka Central Court, 2 Merliniego St., Tickets: zl.80-1,000
