Business risk managers, corporate executives and experts from around the world flocked to an international risk management conference held in Warsaw April 14-15 by the Polish Risk Management Association, Polrisk for short.

The conference focused on the impact of risk management on corporate strategies and on ways in which companies build competitive advantage. Experts discussed ways of achieving synergy effects between risk management, corporate governance and internal audits.

The conference started with a lecture by Gert Cruywagen, a guru for risk managers around the world. His lecture in Warsaw coincided with the publication of his book Jungle Risk Management. Cruywagen spoke about the advantages of risk management and referred to the world of wild animals as an example. According to him, the tactics animals use to survive can be successfully adopted in business. Other speakers at the conference included professional risk managers from around the world, senior business executives and members of European risk management associations from Britain, Germany, the Netherlands and other countries, in addition to experts who have developed contemporary Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) methods.

"I am glad we managed to bring together so many world-famous people at the same time," said Rafał Rudnicki, president of Polrisk. "I think it was an excellent opportunity to exchange experience and compare the ideas of Polish risk managers with the trends and methods used in other countries."
