Inspiration of the Masters

Article's tools:

An outdoor multimedia display entitled Masters of Our Masters will be one of the most important events of this year's Museum Night in Cracow on May 16. The city's Conspero Foundation, established by a group of art lovers, has compiled a series of images drawing on the work of Poland's most renowned painters of the last 200 years and the paintings that were the sources of their inspiration. The images will be projected onto the facade of Cracow's City Hall tower.

Viewers will see paintings by Polish artists such as Jan Matejko, Jacek Malczewski, Wojciech Weiss and Jerzy Nowosielski, together with those of Rembrandt, Raphael and Goya.

Works by the Polish masters that drew inspiration from Rembrandt, Raphael and Goya are regarded as world-class paintings and demonstrate how art in other parts of Europe influenced Polish painters.

The display in Cracow is the result of cooperation among institutions including the National Museums in Cracow, Warsaw and Poznań, the Nowosielski Foundation, and the Wojciech Weiss Museum Foundation. The display's designer is Andrzej Giza, who was also responsible for the Landscape with Portraits exhibition to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Rembrandt's birth. Both the Czartoryski Princes' Museum in Cracow and the Royal Castle in Warsaw hosted the Rembrandt exhibition.

Jakub Ostaszewski composed the music for the Masters of Our Masters display. Ostaszewski works with the Stary and Juliusz Słowacki Theaters in Cracow, Warsaw's Studio Theater, and the Stefan Jaracz Theater in Łódź.

You can see the Masters of Our Masters display in Cracow's Main Market Square on May 16 at 9:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
