£ód¼ is hosting an open-air exhibition of photographs dedicated to the protection of marine biodiversity. Arranged in the picturesque setting of the city's Staromiejski Park and illuminated at night, the exhibition is open to visitors around the clock until Sept. 28.

All the photographs are by French marine biologists Laurent Ballesta and Pierre Descamp, who are considered to be the pioneers of a new approach to the protection of the marine environment.

The exhibition comprises eighty-two 180x120 cm photographs showing the fascinating world of marine wildlife in a feast of colors. The photographs are accompanied by charts with eye-opening information about the condition of the world's seas and oceans.

The exhibition, which combines art with education, promotes the idea of sustainable development and the protection of the marine environment. It is accompanied by an internet competition and an environmental educational program targeted at young people and schoolchildren.

Yet another attraction are weekly film screenings at the local "summer cinema." Films about oceans and their secrets will be shown on Fridays and Saturdays in July and August. These will include films made by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, Luc Besson, and Ballesta and Descamp themselves, as well as the famous documentary series Ushuaia Nature by Nicolas Hulot.
