Movement and Motifs

Warsaw's Le Guern gallery is staging an exhibition of new work by Mariola Przyjemska entitled Paintings 07-08. The pieces on show were painted over the last two years during Przyjemska's stay in Greece and in Prague.

For years Przyjemska has been identified with photography dealing with myths and consumer culture. However, the current series of almost abstract paintings differs from her earlier work. Colorful harmony, concentric shapes and repetitive rhythmic motifs are reminiscent of early experiments by modernist artists. Przyjemska's canvases are full of movement and dynamics, and despite the illusion of swirling depth, draw the viewer's attention to the surface.

Mariola Przyjemska-Paintings 07-08
Le Guern Gallery, 8 Widok St.
until June 17 from Tuesday to Saturday, noon-7 p.m.
