Jazz Bistro Gwiazdeczka
May 28, 2008
Article's tools:

Jazz Bistro Gwiazdeczka is a modern, spacious eatery in Warsaw's Old Town district designed in a traditional style to fit in with its surroundings. Its white interior walls contrast well with the exposed red brickwork of the building. Inside are simple, modern dark-brown chairs placed next to the arches in the walls.

The Jazz Bistro Gwiazdeczka (Little Star) was so named because inside guests can marvel at the sky through a partly glazed roof. For an eatery that is a bistro rather than a fully fledged restaurant, the menu is surprisingly extensive. It includes starters, sandwiches, salads, soups, fish and meat dishes, pancakes, pasta, desserts, and a range of alcoholic drinks. There is even a separate children's menu. Since asparagus is now in season, the bistro has put it on the menu. It offers a grilled pork chop wrapped in asparagus spears with pureed new potatoes and a herb pesto sauce for zl.36.90 or fried asparagus in beer pastry with mango salsa for zl.23.50. Diners' preferences in the spring run to lighter food and the bistro's salads are to be recommended. One is a combination of turkey, grapefruit, sunflower seeds and cranberry sauce for zl.18.90.

Soups include onion soup made with white wine and served with croutons and cheese for zl.13.90 and a homemade chicken broth with pelmeni, small Russian stuffed dumplings, also for zl.13.90.

Main courses cost between zl.30 and zl.45. Diners can choose from beef-fillet steak with a gorgonzola sauce, pork fillet medallions served with smoked salmon, and a cream and caper sauce or duck breasts fried in honey, chili and raspberries and served with a salsa made from papaya and oranges. Other main courses include a pork chop topped with feta cheese served from the oven with fresh rocket and balsamic vinegar, and stuffed chicken served with sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and herb sauce.

Children can enjoy a menu that includes sweet pancakes with cheese and raisins (Przysmak Smurfa) for zl.8.50, fried chicken fingers coated in corn meal with fries for zl.12.50, or a raspberry lemonade with pieces of orange (Gumisiowy sok) for zl.9.90.
