The village of Góraszka near Warsaw has been making a quite a name for itself since 1996 with its annual international air picnic. Aviation enthusiasts will get their chance to see historic flying machines from all over the world again this year June 7-8.

A Supermarine Spitfire is being brought out from Britain as the highlight of this year's event. This single-seater fighter was a staple of Britain's Royal Air Force during World War II and has become linked with the heroism of allied pilots during the Battle of Britain 1940-1941.

The machine is also associated with the Royal Air Force's Tadeusz Ko¶ciuszko 303 Squadron. This crack Polish squadron notched up the most kills during the Battle of Britain.

The Spitfire will be escorted by a Douglas C-47 Dakota, an extensively used allied military transport plane adapted from the company's DC-3 civilian airliner. The C-47 will be bearing the insignia of the Pegasus Squadron, which fought in the Middle East and the Mediterranean toward the end of the war.

A North American Rockwell OV-10 Bronco light attack and observation aircraft is among this year's newcomers. The plane is being brought out from the historical aircraft collection of the Museum of European Aviation in Montelimar in Southern France. The Bronco was introduced in 1969 and saw active service in the Vietnam War, flying reconnaissance missions, escorting helicopters and supporting ground troops.
