As internet use grows, Poland is seeing a rapid development in online betting services. Every year more punters make an online wager and visit a virtual casino.

Punters in this country started turning to these kinds of online services at the beginning of the decade, together with the arrival of major players, including bet-at-home.com, a leading online betting site and licensed bookmaker with offices in Austria, Germany and Malta. The site, offering services in 16 countries in 13 languages, has already registered over one million users. The Polish-language version of the site was launched in 2003. It offers betting on dog and horse races and an online casino, with options including slot machines and seven variants of poker, all without leaving your home, 24 hours a day. You can also place a bet using your mobile.

The overall gambling market in Poland has increased from zl.8.3 billion in 2006 to about zl.10 billion last year. At the same time, internet use has been growing. Last year, over 5 million households or 41 percent of all households used the internet, and 3.7 million or 30 percent of all households had broadband access.

In 2005, Polish-language online betting sites reported sales of zl.1.3 billion. Today, the figure is about zl.1.6-2 billion a year. Last year Poles spent zl.800 million in traditional betting shops-a drop of zl.30 million on 2006. Considering the continual expansion of the internet and the advantages of online gambling, including around-the-clock accessibility, the wide range of products and the high winnings possible, things look bright for online bookmakers.
