Several thousand of aviation fans turned out for the annual International Air Picnic in Góraszka near Warsaw on the hot weekend of June 7 and 8. Some of the most exciting events of this year's show included a fly-by by a Dakota transport plane. Audiences also held their breath watching a BO-107 helicopter in flight. The pilot showed the helicopter was capable of aerobatics normally the preserve of planes. Equally impressive was the Consolidated PBY Catalina flying boat, fitted with two engines delivering 1,200 horsepower each. The aircraft has a wing span of 32 meters, similar to that of the Boeing 737.

Finally what everybody in Góraszka had been waiting for: a pair of F-16 fighter jets and a show featuring the legendary Supermarine Spitfire. The 10-minute show started at 2:20 p.m. The pilot flew over the crowd several times and performed several tight turns, highlighting the capabilities that allowed this plane to face the German Luftwaffe during World War II.
