14th International Jazz in the Old Town Festival
June 25, 2008    wersja polska »
Article's tools:

Warsaw's Jazz in the Old Town is one of the biggest and most popular jazz festivals in Poland. Concerts are held each Saturday in July and August, drawing 3,000 to 4,000 music fans-a total of 50,000 or so throughout the season. This annual festival is a hallmark of Warsaw and Poland. It has become a permanent fixture in the calendar of prestigious and popular music events in the country. It features music premieres and top performers from various trends in jazz, such as swing, mainstream, Latin, world, fusion and modern jazz. This year's festival will feature many international jazz stars.

The festival will open with a concert by Dino Saluzzi, an Argentinean tango-nuevo star and a bandoneon virtuoso. An outstanding ambassador of Argentinian music, Saluzzi will showcase his latest project "Juan Condori." Saluzzi has performed at many major festivals around the world. He has played the bandoneon since the age of seven. He started his music career in Buenos Aires, where he played in the symphony orchestra of Radio El Mundo. He became fascinated with tango nuevo after he met Astor Piazzola. He became a fashionable and popular instrumentalist due to his collaboration with Gato Barbieri. He has largely redefined tango, samba and Latin jazz.

Saluzzi performs with his own band and collaborates with many U.S. and European musicians, such as Charlie Haden, Palle Mikkelborg, Enrico Rava, Eddie Gomez, and Tomasz Stańko. He is among the most important artists in the prestigious ECM label. He will play in Warsaw together with his brothers Felix and Celso and his son Jose.
