Award for Poles at Cannes
The Polish branch of the international advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi has won a Bronze Lion statuette in the "Outdoor" category at the 55th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, according to a report by the Presserwis media newswire. Saatchi & Saatchi Poland was singled out for its "Reincarnation" series focusing on recycling and developed for Greenpeace Polska.


Broadband Internet Access Spreads
Within the next three years 20 percent of people in this country will have broadband internet access, up from 8 percent today, said Anna Stróżyńska, head of the country's Electronic Communications Office. Investment in broadband internet infrastructure in Poland will total zl.18-26 billion over the next two years, Stróżyńska said. The office wants the average monthly charge for broadband internet access to drop to 15-20 euros by 2010. Today it is more than twice as high.


Global Media Revenue Rising: PwC
Global entertainment and media revenue will rise by an average of 6.6 percent a year to $2.2 trillion by 2012, boosted by advertising-supported digital and mobile media and the spread of broadband internet access, according to a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Advertising tied to the burgeoning interest in watching videos on the internet and on devices such as the Apple corporation's iPod, will account for 24 percent of growth in the sector and is projected to grow fastest at a compound annual growth rate of 19.5 percent to 2012.


New Owner for MiMP
German publisher Deutscher Fachverlag (DFV) has bought 60 percent of VFP Communications, a company that publishes the Media & Marketing Polska weekly and Business Media monthly. VFP Communications has a staff of 57 and reported zl.12.5 million in revenue last year. The companies did not reveal the value of the deal.


TVN Viewers Up
Commercial TV station TVN is the only major television channel to have increased its nationwide audience share in April compared to the same month last year. This rose to 18.8 percent from 17.7 percent in April 2007, according to commercial television network TVN Group, citing data from AGB Nielsen Media Research. The rival Polsat station had a 15.3-percent share of the audience, 2 percentage points down on 2007. Public stations TVP 1 and TVP 2 in April had 22.2 and 17 percent respectively.
