The Business Centre Club (BCC) employers' association handed out awards at a summer gala June 21 at Warsaw's Służewiec Racecourse.

Diamonds for Polish Business Leader Gold Statuettes were awarded. Among the 41 companies that received the awards, some were handed the Diamonds for the first time and others were repeat winners. The Lotos Group S.A., an oil mining and distribution consortium, received a Diamond award for the tenth time. Poland's Danuta Hübner, EU Commissioner for Regional Policy, handed out the prizes.

The Polish Business Leader competition has been held since 1991 by the BCC, the the largest association of employers in the country. The competition is conducted in two stages. BCC members who have not previously been awarded a Polish Business Leader Gold Statuette take part in the first stage. Nominations for the award and Gold Statuettes are presented during the winter Grand Gala of Leaders.

Winners of Gold Statuettes who have maintained their position in the market can take part in the second stage. They compete for a Diamond for the Gold Statuette presented during the BCC Grand Summer Gala.

Honorary European Medals, awarded by the Economic and Social European Committee, the Office of European Integration and the BCC for promoting European integration among businesspeople, were also given out at the gala. The recipients this year included Ryszard Kaczorowski, the last president of Poland in exile, Prof. Michał Kleiber, the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Civic Rights Commissioner Janusz Kochanowski.
