Athletes to Get Walk of Fame Stars
July 9, 2008
Article's tools:

A group of top Polish athletes will descend on the seaside town of Władysławowo July 12 to have their names etched in the local Sports Walk of Fame. This will be the ninth annual induction ceremony to date.

Those short-listed for induction this year include both people who still compete in various sports events and veteran athletes who ended their careers long ago. Among the nominees are rally driver Krzysztof Hołowczyc, rower Adam Korol, cyclists Stanisław Królak and Czesław Lang, wrestler Kazimierz Lipień, speedskater Helena Pilejczyk, fencer Anna Rybicka, and track-and-field athlete Kazimierz Zimny. The inductees will be selected by a panel of judges with the Sports Walk of Fame Foundation.

So far, Władysławowo's Sports Walk of Fame consists of 68 stars embedded in a sidewalk. Next year, the Sports Walk of Fame will expand for the 10th time, and the organizers expect to welcome household names such as Olympic swimming champion Otylia Jędrzejczak and top ski jumper Adam Małysz. In fact, the founders of the Walk of Fame hope to see one more big name next year-Brazilian soccer king Pele.
