Some of the world's best disabled fencers crossed swords in a major international tournament in Warsaw in early July. The event, known as the 8th Kiliñski Saber World Cup, ended July 6.

In the tournament, disabled fencers competed in foil, épée and saber events for men and women in groups A, B and C according to level of disability. There were individual contests as well as team competitions. Fencers from Hong Kong and Ukraine stole the show during the tournament. Polish athletes won two silver and six bronze medals.

The Polish silver medal winners were Adam Micha³kowski in the épée, group C; and Dariusz Pender in the foil, group A. The former competitor lost to Ukrainian Aleksei Sundiyev and the latter to Frenchman David Maillard.

Bronze medals went to Jacek Czech and Adam Micha³kowski in the foil, group C; Rafa³ Ziomek in the épée, group A; Leszek Danisiewicz in the épée, group C; and Stefan Makowski and Rados³aw Stañczuk in the saber, group A.

In the team tournament, the winner was Hong Kong with five gold, three silver and three bronze medals. Ukraine emerged the runner-up, followed by France.

The Warsaw tournament was the last major test for athletes planning to compete in this year's Paralympics in Beijing.
