This year's 14th Jazz in the Old Town festival in Warsaw features a lineup of international jazz stars. The annual event is one of the biggest and most popular jazz festivals in Poland. Concerts are held each Saturday in July and August, drawing thousands of music fans throughout the season. This year's festival features many music premieres and top performers from various trends in jazz.

July 12-Tony Lakatos
Tony Lakatos, a Hungarian musician of Roma origin, is an outstanding innovator of modern European jazz who will appear in Warsaw in a special project dedicated to bossa nova master Antonio Carlos Jobim. The concert is entitled "A Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim."

Lakatos has a solid musical education. He is a violin and sax player as well as a composer and a well-known name in modern European jazz.

July 19-Benni Chawes Quintet
Benni Chawes is a Scandinavian vocalist with an impressive, sensual voice. Dubbed the European Barry White, he will appear in Poland for the first time to bring his latest project "Up Close" to audiences here.

Chawes' jazz articulation is compared to the vocals of Tony Bennett and Al Jarreau. He is a vocalist, pianist and composer, and a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. He can skillfully imitate various musical instruments with his voice. His recordings have won the hearts of music fans and garnered many prestigious awards, including the Artist of the Year award in the United States.

July 26-Archie Shepp Quartet
Archie Shepp is considered to be one of the most outstanding avant-garde jazz musicians in the world. He is an innovator rooted in tradition. A legendary sax player, composer, columnist, poet and playwright, he is also a teacher of music and literature at the University of Massachusetts. In the 1960s he played avant-garde jazz with the likes of Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, and John Coltrane.
