Searching for a Summer Hit
July 30, 2008

The Opera Leśna amphitheater in the coastal resort of Sopot is Aug. 8-9 hosting the Sopot Hit Festival, organized by the TVP2 public television station and Radio Eska. Thirty Polish and foreign performers will compete to be named the Polish and the Foreign Summer Hit of 2008.

"The number and especially the standard of entries was a pleasant surprise for me," says Jarosław Burdek, TVP2 deputy director for entertainment programs and director of the Sopot Hit Festival 2008. "We have received well over 100 nominations for the Summer Hit of 2008, of which at least a half, with due promotion and a bit of luck, stand a good chance of winning the title," Burdek says.

Polish festival performers include Kasia Nova, Ewelina Flinta and Łukasz Zagrobelny, Ania Dąbrowska, Kasia Cerekwicka, and the Kasa and Mezo bands.

On the second day of the festival, the competition for acts from abroad will include performances by Beats and Styles, Jay Delano, Nexx, Basic Element, Charlotte Perrelli, HoneyHoney and Jennifer Kae. The festival's special guests will be Kate Ryan and the Stachursky and Feel bands.

"The Sopot Hit Festival is a natural response to the needs of the Polish audience in a bid to find the biggest hit of the season, both domestic and international," says Mariusz Woźniczka, artistic director of the Sopot Hit Festival and president of the Promotor United Entertainment company.

At the festival, the only judges will be the audience, voting by text messages. The competition songs have been playing on TVP2 and Radio Eska since July 10.
