Sounds of Chopin at His Birthplace

The Frederic Chopin Institute is inviting music lovers to Żelazowa Wola, the birthplace of Poland's greatest composer, every Sunday during August for a piano recital of his music.

Gracjan Szymczak will be giving a recital at noon and another at 3 p.m Aug. 3, Łukasz Trepczyński will be doing likewise Aug. 10, Kazimierz Gierżod Aug. 17, and Rinko Kobayashi Aug. 24. On Aug. 31, Eva Vorobjeva will be performing at noon and Edward Wolanin at 3p.m. Vorobjeva, a young Estonian pianist, is a winner of the Chopin piano competition for children and young people in St. Petersburg.

Chopin was born in Żelazowa Wola, some 50 km west of Warsaw, in 1810. You can get to the Sunday recitals via a special minibus which departs from outside the Frederic Chopin Academy of Music, 2 Okólnik St. in Warsaw at 1:30 p.m. and returns at 4:15 p.m. A return ticket will set you back zl.26.
