Online Sales Grow

Trade over the internet is growing, both in the case of companies and households, according to the European statistics office, Eurostat. A forecast by French research company BIPE shows that by 2010 online sales in 13 European countries will have grown by 119 percent compared with 2006, to reach 196.6 billion euros annually.

Among the analyzed countries, Russia and Portugal are expected to report a growth rate of 317 percent. Poland, with a predicted growth rate of 206 percent, is in fourth place in the group, behind Italy, where online sales are expected to grow by 216 percent by 2010 to 11.9 billion euros. Online sales in Poland are expected to be worth almost 2 billion euros by 2010, up from 600 million euros in 2006. In Central and Eastern Europe as a whole, the market is expected to grow by well over 100 percent.
