TVP Info Gets Makeover

Public broadcaster Polish Television (TVP) will be recording programs for its information channel TVP Info in a new digital studio as of Aug. 1. The new newsroom will be using the technical facilities of the TVP Information Agency and local TVP branches. The new system consolidates all the editing phases and ensures unlimited access to information, agency services and other media resources. Journalists can prepare material and graphics by themselves and update screens in real time.

The studio occupies what was once the production department of the broadcaster's Wiadomo¶ci news program on Warsaw's Powstańców Warszawy Square. There are six digital cameras, a rotating podium, an entire wall of plasma screens and a state-of-the-art computer-controlled lighting system. The sets were designed by Anna Mioduszewska.

TVP Info has divided its broadcasting into morning, daytime and evening bands. There will be a new economic news program, Biznes, although Serwis Informacyjny TVP Info will remain the channel's flagship program. TVP Info will continue to broadcast Minęła 20-ta, Telekurier-Bliżej Ciebie and Raport z Polski while adding local news and regional programs.

TVP Info was launched in October last year as a replacement for TVP 3. There are 16 regional channels throughout the country, each with its own news program. The TVP Information Agency has a network of foreign corespondents.

Al Jazeera on Onet.pl
Poland's largest website, Onet.pl, launched a news service July 15 that takes its content from Al Jazeera English, the English language version of the Qatar-based Arabic-language news network. The service is available in streaming mode round the clock for free.

Al Jazeera English is the first Middle East-based English-language news channel to broadcast news from around the world. The channel has been available on YouTube for about a year and has become one of the most popular news channels there, generating 21 million video views, according to global distribution director Phil Lawrie.

There will also be an online forum so that people can exchange views on what is being shown on the channel.

New TV Puls Channels Planned
American media giant News Corporation, a minority stockholder and strategic partner in commercial station TV Puls, plans to launch two new terrestrial digital TV channels in Poland. "TV Puls will continue its strategy in terms of the digitalization of terrestrial broadcasting in Poland," said Robert Kroplewski, a lawyer for TV Puls. The television station is planning a new news channel in high-definition format.

MySpace Lands in Poland
A Polish version of the world's most popular social networking website is to appear online soon. Launched July 23, MySpace Polska is still in a test-drive phase. The website has announced that the service should be ready "in a few months." MySpace, owned by Rupert Murdoch's Fox Media Interactive, has already launched 29 regional versions in 15 languages.

Spending Up On Outdoor Ads
Polish companies forked out a total of zl.326.6 million on outdoor advertising in the first half of 2008, 14 percent up on the same period last year, according to a report from the Commercial Chamber of Outdoor Advertising, which brings together the country's largest outdoor advertising firms. The majority of billboard adverts featured mobile telephone systems, chain stores, supermarkets and cars.

In the first half of the year, however, revenue from advertising on trams and other forms of public transport dropped by 3.5 percent to zl.17.9 million.
