BASF Polska and the Science Center Copernicus in Warsaw opened a joint chemistry laboratory for teens on October 18. The facility is cooperating with the BASF Teens’ Labs and is continuing BASF's long tradition of supporting educational projects.

"As the world's largest chemical company and a major employer, we are assuming our responsibility for the future and are already striving to foster young people's interest in natural sciences, especially chemistry.

I am pleased that Polish youth are now also being given the opportunity to discover the world of chemistry in such an exciting way together with us," said Dr. Michael Hepp, Managing Director of BASF Polska, during the opening ceremony.

The event was attended by, among others, representatives of the Polish Ministry of Education, the Administration of the City of Warsaw and the academic institutions of Warsaw who tested the possibilities offered by the laboratory. In the professionally equipped laboratory, about 10,000 teens every year will be able to perform experiments themselves under the supervision of trained chemists.

The Science Center Copernicus opened in November 2010 is one of the largest and most modern institutions of its kind in Europe. Interactive exhibitions addressed to different target groups, presentations and workshops with scientific topics, debates and panel discussions as well as knowledge events awaken the curiosity of children and teens. The center receives about 2,000 visitors every day.
