HDI-Gerling Życie is a new Polish insurance company formed from the merger of general insurer Gerling Polska and life insurer Aspecta Życie June 30. The new entity is planning to offer 14 products including property and personal insurance, life insurance, life and health reinsurance, and property and health reinsurance through 45 offices and 1,000 agents nationwide.

"Merging the two insurance companies will increase market share, cut costs, and streamline customer service processes and procedures," says HDI-Gerling Życie chairman Sławomir Walery¶. "The new firm will be able to benefit the experience and make use of the strategies of both companies."

The merger follows the takeover of Gerling Polska's German parent by fellow German Talanx Group in May 2006. Talanx, which was known as HDI until 1998, goes back more than 100 years, and is Germany's third largest and Europe's eight largest insurer. The group provides a broad range of financial services in 150 countries around the world.
