Warsaw's Frederic Chopin Museum at the Ostrogski Castle, 1 Okólnik St., will soon gain a new look after an international panel of judges July 31 approved a new design for the premises.

A total of 37 teams from a number of European countries entered the competition to redesign the museum, but only 21 companies met all the criteria required by the organizers. The jury consisted of 11 museologists, musicologists, architects, set designers and theater and film directors.

The competition, with prize money of 100,000 euros, was conducted under the auspices of the culture ministry. The top prize of 50,000 euros was unanimously awarded to Italian design studio Migliore + Servetto Architetti Associati in Milan. The second prize of 30,000 euros went to Polish architects from Govenlock Studio Projektowe in Warsaw, and two prizes of 10,000 euros each went to Progetto Media SRL in Milan and Holzer Kobler Architekturen GmbH in Zurich.

The Frederic Chopin Museum will reopen to the public in early 2010 to mark the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth.
